1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Additional granulated sugar
1 pouch (7 oz) orange decorating cookie icing
1 tube black decorating icing with plain tip
Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, beat butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar and the powdered sugar with hand mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and almond extract. Stir in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased BAKER’S SECRET COOKIE SHEETS. Spray flat-bottomed glass with cooking spray; dip in granulated sugar and flatten each ball slightly.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set and edges just begin to brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely.
Frost cookies with orange icing. Using black icing, draw lines on frosting to resemble basketballs.
