Grab the basic recipe below, then swap out a few ingredients to create 3 more delish twists.

1. CUPID’S CLASSIC PUPPY CHOW

This basic recipe will yield one batch of basic dessert mix. It also works perfectly as a base formula for personalizing puppy chow to your taste. To customize, simply mix up the mix-ins.

What you’ll need:

  • 5 cups checkerboard rice cereal (like Chex™)
  • 1 cup baking chips (chocolate, cinnamon, peanut butter, white vanilla)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (or chocolate-hazelnut spread, cookie butter, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 to 1 cup mix-ins (candies, sprinkles, etc.)

Pour cereal into a PYREX® SMART ESSENTIALS® 4-QT MIXING BOWL W/ RED LID; set aside.

In a microwave-safe PYREX® 2 CUP MEASURING CUP, microwave baking chips and butter uncovered on High in 30-second increments, stirring between each, until melted. Add peanut butter; stir until smooth. Pour mixture over cereal; stir with rubber spatula until coated. Sprinkle powdered sugar over cereal. Cover with lid; shake well to coat. Add desired mix-ins; shake to combine. Let stand until until firm before serving.

2. RED VELVET PUPPY CHOW

Combine a kiss of chocolate with brilliant color in this red-velvet inspired version. This shakes up to be such a tasty treat, it’s almost too good to share with the kids.

Swap these ingredients into the basic recipe:

  • Milk chocolate baking chips
  • Chocolate-hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
  • Red candy sprinkles
3. SWEET CINNAMON PUPPY CHOW

The perfect way to spice up your Valentine’s Day! Don’t be surprised if you crave a handful or two of this mix for breakfast, as this combo tastes like a cinnamon roll.

Swap these ingredients into the basic recipe:

  • Cinnamon cereal
  • Cookie butter
  • Cinnamon chips
4. CHOCOLATE CRUSH PUPPY CHOW

February is a celebration of all things chocolate, and this puppy chow will be the life of the party. For a double dose of chocolate, add a sprinkling of baking cocoa to your powdered sugar coating. The intense chocolaty flavor is sure to get the approval of chocoholics everywhere. For fun mix-ins, try adding chocolate chips or cinnamon red-hots.

Twist up the classic by adding these instead:

  • Dark chocolate chips
