World Kitchen | Setting the Scene for Romance
Cancel the reservations and leave the crowds behind. Forget about takeout. Wave off those ridiculous Valentine’s Day prices. Instead, make Cupid look like a rookie this year by creating a memorable Valentine’s Day dinner for your sweetheart—right at home.
Not sure where to start? Let us be your guide. Follow these 7 simple steps and you’ll be sure to impress this Valentine’s Day with your heartfelt effort.
1.Fetch Fresh Flowers. No need to fork out a fortune on a dozen long-stemmed red roses, but a lovely bouquet of mixed flowers, often easier on the pocketbook, will show you’re a romantic who pays attention to detail.
2.Set the Table. Quickly elevate the experience to “wow” by using a clean, wrinkle-free tablecloth and cloth napkins. Not sure what to do next? Brush up on table-setting basics with these helpful how-to-set-a-table tips.
3.New Pattern Occassion. Pull out the special dinnerware, or pick up a fresh new Corelle pattern. For special occasions, try the elegant embossed design of CORELLE® BOUTIQUE™ CHERISH or SWEPT. Either will stand out from your usual plates. Last, but not least, make sure your flatware is spot-free.
4.Create an Experience. Dim the lights, light some candles and stream softer, more romantic tunes, or play a favorite CD. Up the ante by customizing a special playlist just for the evening. For inspiration, search with the phrase “romantic music playlist.”
5. Start Me Up. Few of our everyday meals start with an appetizer. So, make this day different. We have a Mango Jalapeno Salsa for you that’s packed with bright, bold flavors to awaken the senses. Mango is one of the ingredients found on blogger and cookbook author Amy Reiley’s list of foods for romance. For a complete list, check out her Foods of Love guide. You probably have many of them in your fridge and pantry already.
6.Make it Special with Fish. Try this rich and flavorful Blue Cheese-Crusted Salmon that won’t distract your focus from your sweetheart because it’s easy to prepare, impressive and served in under 30 minutes. Pair it with a light Riesling or a medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon to round out the meal.
7.Sweet Ending. Be sure to save room for dessert, because you won’t want to miss out on decadent Boozy Brownie Shots. Rich chocolate brownies topped with an Irish cream-coffee liqueur-spiked pudding, this grown-ups-only dessert will leave you licking your lips.
