Microwave Dessert: 5-minute Nutella Mug Cake Recipe
Every home cook knows one-pot meals are a great way to prep dinner in advance to save time after work. But have you heard of super-quick one-mug meals?
A growing trend among Pinterest users, mug recipes are quickly becoming the hottest thing since cupcakes and doughnuts. From omelets to pasta, soup to couscous, the variety of ideas fits any mealtime or craving. While the ingredients may differ, each recipe involves quickly cooking in your microwave with a mug, making meals super mobile.
While a savory omelet cooked in a flash is great, the recipes that catch my eye are quick desserts—microwave cake, cookies and even brownies! A delicious way to satisfy a sweet tooth, you can make one serving at a time—in less than 5 minutes. My latest favorite is the Nutella Mug Cake—a chocolaty, nutty, gooey delight all packed into a mug.
All you need to make one for yourself is a large coffee mug (sure, CorningWare® Pop-Ins® are perfect!) plus five simple ingredients and a microwave.
Nutella Mug Cake
Butter or cooking spray (just enough to coat the inside of your mug)
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup Nutella
3 tablespoons milk
Start with a CorningWare Pop-In or large coffee mug. The batter rises quite a bit, so be sure you have a large mug. You can also split the batter between two smaller mugs.
Grease the inside of the mug with butter or cooking spray. Add the remaining ingredients to the mug; mix with a fork until smooth.
Microwave on high for about 1 minute (less time if you opted for two small mugs). You’ll know it’s ready to taste when you can insert a knife and it comes out clean. The top of the cake should also look done. If the top is not set, heat it up for another 20 seconds.
Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, or indulge with a scoop of ice cream while the cake’s still warm. Yum!
